Guide to plan and purpose of this blog:

Purpose: The aim is to defend the values of science and good scientists in the paradigm wars of HIV/AIDS, cancer, evolution, global warming, nutrition, religious belief and any other disputes over new and different ideas in science, health and politics against subjectivity and self-interest, mining truths buried in the journal literature and commonly overlooked by the media.

We review novel claims without prejudice against modern Galileos, courageous whistleblowers, distinguished mavericks, past or future Nobelists, or any other publicly damned but highly respectable heretics, that is, informed and independent minds (such as the noted scientists Peter Duesberg, James Watson and Kary Mullis) who may question scripture.

The blog aims at balanced commentary on the rival claims of paradigm defenders and informed dissidents, judging truth objectively with reason and evidence and by reading specialist journals generally overlooked by busy media reporters and commentators, though not without applying a filter of common sense and carefully reviewing the peer-reviewed scientific and medical record for the influence of power politics, self interest, data management, misinterpretation, religious fervor and other human follies.

The blog is designed to be a guide to better science in public policy through a) a continuing series of posts highlighting error and confusion in certain scientific fields where paradigms are sustained beyond their shelf life and b) a set of links to relevant other sites, which blogroll is lower down in the sidebar on the right.

The right hand margin of the blog contains all the title links to each post from the start of blog (most recent post at top) and then, below that, the blogroll, links to hundreds of relevant sites, papers and books, ordered according to whether they are accurate, helpful or misleading, with the best in each section starred at the top of the list.

Pages are best displayed in Safari or Firefox (PC or Mac), or Google Chrome (PC), and may be wrongly displayed by Internet Explorer which may not distinguish between boldface and normal text.

How to print out posts and comment threads:

Posts are best printed out when they are displayed individually, because the multi-post front page printout will include, for some reason best known to the lost Webmaster, the blogroll and list of all posts down the side, which most people do not wish to print out.

To display a post individually click its title.

The adaptation of this site from Powerblog software to Wordpress by programmer Frank Lusardi was inexplicably abandoned while still incomplete, the result of some misunderstanding which Lusardi was unwilling to explain, perhaps because it was simply the well known Web designer syndrome where site designers suddenly abandon ship out of boredom and resentment that their tedious work is insufficiently recognized, leaving colleagues with no way of reverse engineering or deconstructing what they have done.)
